    Collaboration FAQ

  1. How can I find people working on my ancestry (Collaborate)?

The Collaboration feature allows you to see who else is working on your genealogy. Collaboration allows you to contact people, via email, who are working on your ancestry. With this feature, you will find new sources and leads that previously have not have been available.

All of the individual records in OneGreatFamily are tracked by who submitted them. You can find the name and email address of the person who submitted the record by placing the individual so that they are the Selected Individual in the Handprint. Click where it says [Click to edit]. When the details for the individual appear, click on the button labeled "Collaborate" at the bottom left of the box. You will see a list of groups and members of those groups. Click on the username of a group member and you will see their name and email address appear below. Press the "Send" button to open your default email client in order to type and send that member an email.

  2. When I try to collaborate, I am unable to do so.

When you press the "Send" button in the "Collaborate with others" box, the browser will attempt to launch a default email client. If you are not running a program, such as Outlook or Outlook Express, this feature may not work. If you use a web-based email provider, such as AOL or MSN, then you can write down the name and email address and send them an email.

  3. I have not yet received an answer from my collaboration attempts. What is the problem?

There are many reasons why you may not receive an answer from collaboration attempts. One reason may be that you may have copied the email address down incorrectly and the email never reached the appropriate person. Another reason why you may not receive a response is if the email address listed may no longer be valid. OneGreatFamily does not regulate email addresses that individuals use with their accounts. An individual may have entered their email address incorrectly or may have changed their email address without updating their OneGreatFamily account.
